Chihuly in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens
Over this past summer, I visited Atlanta to visit a college. While I was there, I visited the Botanical Gardens, where the blown glass work of Chihuly was on display. The work was amazing, extremely delicate pieces of glass in brilliant colors. I especially loved the way the exhibit was integrated with the gardens. Many of the pieces were incorporated into parts of the gardens that coordinated with the color or shape of the pieces.
I had seen Chihuly's work before, but I had never seen his work with neon before. The glowing neon gave the work this frantic energy that contrasted with the preciseness of the rest of his work. Another thing I did not expect was the way he decided to hang some of the work. One was even hung off a tree over a ledge. I thought that this effort put into integrating the work with the environment really took this exhibition to a higher quality than those I'd seen before.
